Common questions

How is the difficulty label worked out?

The app solves every scramble optimally in the background. The label shows the fewest moves that solve the board, and what share of all positions are easier. Until the solver finishes, the label shows a loading state.

Why does the first launch take a few seconds to label a board?

On first launch the app builds its solver tables in the background, which takes a few seconds. After that, the tables load almost at once.

When does the daily board change?

At midnight UTC. Every player gets the same board. See today's board.

Why did my time not post to Game Center?

Only Standard solves post to the leaderboards, and imported solves do not post. Before a solve posts, the app replays its move log and checks the time and the move count. Also make sure that you are signed in to Game Center in the Settings app.

How do I move my history to a new phone?

Export your history from Settings as a JSON file, and import it on the new phone. Imported solves show in your stats, but they do not post to Game Center.

What do the tile colors mean?

The default Fringe theme colors each tile by the layer a speedsolver solves it in: the first row and column, then the second row and column, then the last 2x2. You can pick Rows, Columns, Plain, or Mono in Settings.
